It was a busy week-end - and mixed fortunes for the Erdington Court squads, as they took on City of Birmingham, City of Coventry and Shrewsbury. A total of over 50 Court players took to the rinks - a number of whom were new to top level competition. The Club has extended its participation in competitions this year to reflect the growth in membership.
In the first round of the Denny Cup on Saturday, the Court had two squads playing at home at Bowling Green Close - and another 2 away at City of Birmingham. A weak start saw the Court fight back to lose by only 3 points overall. They will still continue to compete for the Denny Plate however.
Meanwhile, another Court squad away at a friendly at Shrewsbury, crashed 82: 97 despite winning on 3 rinks.
However, there was better news in the second round of the Top Club competition played at home on Sunday against City of Coventry. A total of over 10 hours of play on all 4 indoor rinks, saw Erdington come out the clear winners against Coventry. Mark Ireland led the charge, to start the day with a 26: 3 win over Colin Stowe in the Men's Two Wood Singles. This was despite Mark only having recently returned from a long lay off after surgery. Other Court wins included 18:8 for John Pritchard, Jean Smith and Phil Bond in the mixed triples and 22:12 for Tim Hartland, Pat Court, Chris Reid and Eddie Dunn in the mixed fours.
